The President of the United States

Margaret L. Chen

47th President of the United States

Before taking office, Margaret Chen spent more than two decades in public service — as a state legislator, a governor, and as a leading voice on economic policy in the United States Senate. Across every role, she has been guided by a single conviction: that good government is the everyday work of making ordinary lives a little easier, a little fairer, and a little more secure.

Raised in a small manufacturing town by a schoolteacher and a small business owner, the President learned early what it means for an economy to work — and what it means when it does not. That experience continues to shape her approach to the Presidency, from the cabinet room to the communities she visits across the country.

The President holds a bachelor\'s degree from a state university and a law degree she earned while working nights to support her family. She lives in the Executive Residence with her spouse, Thomas, and their two children.
